About Embedded Picture Mnemonics
Embedded Picture Mnemonics are a memory aid technique designed to help children learn the sounds that letters represent. Each sound (made of letters) is uniquely created with pictures that start with the sound the letter/s represent. For example, the 'P' in Peter could be represented by a penguin and the 'o' in Theo could be represented by the ocean.
Ever have trouble explaining to Charlotte why her name doesn’t start with a ‘c’ sound like in cat? Or to Thomas why he doesn’t need to pronounce a ‘h’ sound when he says his name? Often the first written word children show interest in is their own name. But sometimes names contain less common spellings and this can be difficult to explain. Rather than causing frustration, Sounds You See aims to help children understand how sounds and letters work by using Embedded Picture Mnemonics in their own name in a fun and engaging way.
